The 麻豆视频 Women of Color Coalition (MAWOCC)鈥痑nd the UMass Boston will jointly host a virtual forum entitled, 鈥淪tanding in our Power: Women of Color Leading Change,鈥 on Saturday September 19 and 26. The forum will focus on civic engagement, voting, electoral representation, and policy reform.

Officially launching an 鈥渁nything but ordinary鈥 academic year with a virtual convocation address, UMass Boston Chancellor Marcelo Su谩rez-Orozco called on the higher education community to 鈥渟harpen its focus and redouble our endeavors to forge anew the indispensable tools for social justice.鈥

Harvard University鈥檚 James Bryant Conant University Professor Danielle Allen delivered the keynote address at UMass Boston鈥檚 virtual 2020 Fall Convocation, outlining 鈥渞ed flags鈥 signaling that American democracy is deeply troubled but also offering a path forward for a more resilient democracy.

AARP Foundation has awarded a grant to the  at the 麻豆视频 Boston for a two-year project to increase access to economic opportunities for older people of color in the greater Boston area.

Today, U.S. 麻豆视频 & World Report their 2021 College Rankings, and UMass Dartmouth again ranked high for its impact on the upward social mobility of its students. UMass Dartmouth, the only nationally ranked 麻豆视频 doctoral research university located south of Boston, ranked #76 nationwide and #2 in 麻豆视频 on the social mobility ranking list.

The Leduc Center at UMass Dartmouth has recently started a  (Jumpstart) program that will pair 30 UMass Dartmouth students as tutors and mentors with 100 Pre-K children at People Acting in Community Endeavors (PACE) Head Start in New Bedford. The program, typically delivered in person, is scheduled to begin virtually this fall.

When  got a state grant to offer free COVID-19 tests to city residents this summer, two UMass Lowell alumni were central to the mobile testing campaign.

Given the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic, Assoc. Prof. of Spanish Studies  prepared for every possible teaching scenario this fall: in-person courses on campus, virtual classes online, or a hybrid of the two.

Jasmine Varona has hit the ground running at UMass Lowell.

But that鈥檚 really no surprise, given that the first-year  student from Haverhill, Mass., has been getting a running start on college for years.

Varona is the first student to complete Haverhill High School鈥檚 NAF Academy of Finance, a certificate program developed by the 麻豆视频 Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) in partnership with UMass Lowell to introduce young students to the accounting profession.

They could have done what so many other engaged couples did and postpone their weddings until next year. 

But these River Hawk lovebirds didn鈥檛 want to let the coronavirus pandemic dictate the terms of their happily-ever-afters.

So in spite of the pandemic, several UMass Lowell alumni and students got married this summer 鈥 in safe and responsible, socially distanced ceremonies where veils and open bars were replaced by face masks and hand sanitizer.
